Squidoo, HubPages, and SEO

Whether you want to make some extra money, promote your blog or site, or both, if you aren’t presently using the features that Squidoo and Hubpages have to offer you are missing a trick.Simply put, Web 2.0 is the the  darling of the biggest search engine, Google. And it’s for this reason that you should be taking advantage of these online publishing platforms, where virtually anything can be written about, and published for free. Not only are Squidoo and Hubpages great ways of expressing yourself, they actually reward your efforts by giving you part of their profits they make. There are more similarities than differences between these two publishing platforms. After paying all their expenses lensmasters (the owners of the lenses, or pages), are eligible to receive a share of the profits made. If you are an Amazon affiliate, or are signed up to Google Apsense, or Kontera Hubpages are an ideal medium in which to make even more commissions. You just enter your affiliate codes in their respective places when you set up your account with them. Clearly, the more lenses and hubs you run, the more money you are likely to make. Having said that, the onus is upon you as much as possible to keep both updated with fresh content. This is especially true of Squidoo lenses. An added bonus, or to some the main reason to become a part of both these programs, is that as Google loves them, and often indexes new lenses and hubs in a very short time, the links are definitely worth having. Most outbound links are ‘Dofollow’ which means that as your articles gain in Page Rank any links from them gain in value. I know a number of lenses which are PR3 and PR4. So, the wily lensmaster who has some sites or blogs of his own will create backlinks from Squidoo and/or Hubpages to his site. This benefits him of course because he can expect some visitors to come via those links, and there should be some link ‘juice’ too which can help raise his linked-to sites’ PR. What I would say is this. Don’t just create lenses or Hubs designed to promote your business or affiliate scheme. Just like a regular site, visitors expect good content. Give them something they’ll enjoy looking at, something of real value, and you will build up a good reputation in the community. Spammy lenses and Hubs are quickly found out, and will do you no good whatsoever in the long term. As I see it Squidoo and Hubpages are a win-win situation for everyone, as long as they are used properly.
